Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
