A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
